ALEXANDRA BASTEDO

9 March 1946 – 12 January 2014

It is with great sadness and regret that we announce that Alexandra Bastedo passed away peacefully and unexpectedly this Sunday afternoon after a long battle against cancer. Wife of the late Patrick Garland, the well-known theatre director, Alexandra found fame as Sharron McCready in the 1960's series 'The Champions' and went on to roles in films, on stage and on television.

Founder of the ABC Animal Sanctuary over thirty years ago, Alexandra has during this time rescued and re-homed countless animals whose lives were at risk. A fervent supporter of animal welfare, she was well known and respected for her work in this field and she worked tirelessly alongside the 60+ volunteers who give up their time to care for the animals at the Sanctuary. Further details of the ABC Animal Sanctuary can be found at www.abcanimalsanctuary.co.uk

Alexandra has left behind a wonderful legacy and the Trustees and Volunteers will maintain into the future the same high standards of care and affection for the animals at the ABC Animal Sanctuary that Alexandra started all those years ago and devoted her life to. If you would like to make a donation in  Alexandra's memory to her life-long passion then we have just opened a special page at the following link www.bmycharity.com/alexbastedo

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, a beautiful woman who treasured her friends, her many fans and her animals.
