Sincere sympathy on the loss of your husband. Your work with animals is inspiring. You were a part of my early years in The Champions. I wish you all the very best.

Alex, if I may call you that. All the very best wishes to you. I was a huge fan of the Champions and consider it part of my growing up. I am sorry to hear of your husbands passing way and hope you are managing your life. Please take care and if there is anything I can do (which I know sounds a little odd from someone you have never met) then say so. You were and are the best. Andrew

Bonjour Alexandra Bastedo,

Merci.

Good afternoon Alexandra, I don't know how but your name came up in a conversation I had at the weekend with friends.
A question was asked 'when did you first begin to notice girls'. I replied whilst watching you in the champions.I thought after that I must see what happened to the person who had such an effect on me.
Now I see you have an animal sanctuary, still obviously perfect in every way.

kindest regards

Just finished watching the movie "DRAW".I can see why Miss Bastedo enjoyed making the picture, She gave a very good performance.
The interplay and banter between her character and Kirk Douglas was the best scenes.
I wonder did she enjoyed the costume, she wore, or it was chore to put it on everyday.
DRAW was a good take on the Classic Westerns!

Or maybe a visitor to this site could have a tip for me where i could look ?

To end my message, I would like to thank you for my wonderful viewing of The Champions and for all your work and passion in giving the animals a happy life.

As an owner of a cat who was abandoned by Hatton Cross tube station near Heathrow, it's great to see another site with such dedication to animal care.

Our two previous rescue cats gave us immense pleasure, despite being overlooked for so long simply because one was black and the other black and white.

Ironically, I found my way here, and to ABC, having just watched The Champions episode 'Shadow of the Panther' - one where Alexandra / Sharon gets rare centre stage. Plus Donald Sutherland no less.

As someone who also owned John d Green's 1967 photo book, Birds of Britain (until last month), it's no surprise to find Alexandra's inner beauty and kindness matches her outer.

Best wishes for every continued success treading the boards and for ABC.

Hi Alexandra,
So nice to find your site . I was a fan of The Champions . I seem to remember an episode set in The Australian Desert. It was rare to see an international tv show set in Australia in those days. I also remeber seeing 'Kashmiri Run' on late night tv.
Animal rescue is a noble lifestyle in this modern world. In fact my oldest daughter is involved with WIRES, one of Australias largest wildlife rescue organisations.
Nice to know that you are still out there and doing such good deeds

you, and I was fascinated with the three of you. You were my model of girl, I wanted to be like you. You and the boys
of the serie made me very happy and I will
always say you THANKS. Then I studied English to understand you, and now I can
communicate with you. I wish you the most hapiness and you are a lovely person for what you do for the animals.

My 12 year son discovered the champions last year when the series was shown before school each morning on digital tv.
Needless to say he insisted I obtain all the episodes that were made.
Of course he loves it , as did I and my wife who would have seen the series re-runs in the 70's.

30 epsisodes in one series, those were the days! I wish we could re-capture those times.

I have tried him on other popular series from the 60's and apart from the munsters and bewitched, American of course, he's doesnt really enjoy the other British shows at all, well maybe a bit of the saint now and then.

He's blessed with good taste it seems.
And no prizes for guessing who his favourite champions character is.

Thank you Alexandra & we wish you and your ABC sanctuary all the best, we have made donations as animal lovers ourselves.

Dear Alexandra,

I also grew up thinking you were wonderful in The Champions as I watched it regularly. It was an enjoyable and original show. One of the episodes that left a strong impression was about witchcraft in Cornwall. I saw it repeated recently on ITV 4. I also remember The Aphrodite Inheritance very fondly. You were perfect for that role, and the music was outstanding. It's great that you're now doing such excellent work for your animal sanctuary.

Here's to one of the most beautiful, classy actresses this country ever produced. I wish you much happiness and good health.

I have never been one for the adoration of "celebrity", however I remember as a four year old watching the champions, loving the programme and of course, being bowled over by Alexandras incredible beauty and screen presence. Recently I saw the champions on tv and was thrilled to feel the same way about the programme today, all these years on. Thank you for having such a wonderfully positive impact on such a small child, and thanks for the rekindled memories. Alexandra, you are one very special lady. Good luck with ABC, what a great cause to champion.

Dear Alexandra, As an avid fan of The Champions, I get a regular fix not only from the re-runs but the entire DVD set which I recently treated myself too. Yes, the sets have aged and the cars are of an era long gone by but the fact remains, this was one of the most enigmatic TV ideas ever. The fan base, I'm sure is significant. At 50, I'm proud to be a member.

Is it at all possible that a modern-day cinematic film or TV serial could be made bringing the original cast back together for some cameo appearences? Sons and Daughters of the Champions perhaps?

I hope to visit your wonderful ABC Sanctuary with my children sometime very soon. You are to be congratulated for doing some magnificent work. Well Done!

Dear Alexandra,
I have only just discovered The Champions on DVD, even though I am now 59. I am enjoying this show very much, what a great trip back to the 60s. You were wonderful as Sharon, you were all great. I have not seen much of your career but I do have a DVD of Tibetana in which you were opposite Pernell Roberts,(my heart throb) and I envied you very much. You were no doubt saddened to hear of Pernell's passing last January. It is great to know that you are running an animal sanctuary, what a worthy cause. Very best wishes from Dale (female), from New Zealand.

From: Gareth (Thu 1st Apr 2010 at 07:32)
Hi there Alex. Great to see you have a sanctuary for animals, no small task either I should imagine but made up for by the satisfaction you get from it.
I used to watch The Champions repeats in the 80's ( I was 12ish then am 38 now) fantastic series and a fantastic concept at the time, I occasionally catch episodes currently being shown on ITV4. I am amazed that an updated version has not been made yet or even a reunion episode or both. Are there any plans for this at all do you know?
Keep up the good and hard work in all your endevours, you Champion :-)

I remember being allowed to watch 'The Champions' in the late Sixties when I was still a litle boy. Is it really possible for a five year old to fall in love? Because I did, and still am!

Thanks,

Adrian

Dear Alexandra
My name is Mario and I live in a small city to the South of Brazil.
Like you should already know, my native language is the Portuguese, and I still have some difficulty with your language, Therefore, forgive me for my eventual mistakes in English.
I have the picture of your site in the screen of my computer, I accompanied your career as actress, from the series \"The Champions.\" I had a true fascination for your beauty; It is Pity, that at that time, the Internet, and the possibility of interacting with an artistic celebrity would not exist,... was an impossible thing. Besides the Series \"The Champions\" I accompanied other works On that you acted at the movies.
Know that today with 54 years, I continue being your admirer and your fan; I have admiration for the people that go by this life and they leave your mark, they leave memorable things, and you left and it shone in the Series \"The Champions\" and it continues shining, only that in another stage of your life.
It is Pity that the internet still doesn\'t turn possible to give a hug to take a picture and to ask an autograph...., If it was possible I would ask with certainty.
Congratulations for everything that you did and you do until today...

Mario

Well even at the age of eight years old I recognised beauty in the form of Ms Macready, back in the great sixties. Glad I was bought up in the photographic industry then. I can imagine those wonderful times especially with friends like Kate O\'Mara. I trust you all sink some vino together now and then! Best wishes for 2010 and I will hopefully visit on one of your open days in support of your excellent cause. Adam.

I have just found your website. When I was younger I watched The Champions on tv - it was my favourite. As far as I was concerned, Sharron was the most beautiful woman in the world, as well as being smart, intelligent and brave. I have been watching the series again recently and am still of the same opinion. I think your website is fantastic, especially the work you do with and for animals, makes me realise that you are not just beautiful, smart and intelligent like Sharron but caring, kind and compassionate too. I am so proud to be a fan and shall tell everyone I know that I still love The Champions and Sharron Mcready! Wishing you all the best for the future, I shall join your fan club soon.

I was a small boy of 4 when the Champions first appeared, but I still have those same feelings today when I see film or pictures of you from that time. Clearly, you are still very beautiful. Thank you for making the choice to go into television, rather than go to university. Im sure they couldnt teach you anything. Best regards. Ashley

Hi Alexandra, great to see your wonderful work with the animal sanctuary. My first introduction to you however, like many of your avid fans, was through “The Champions”. I had a huge crush on Sharon Macready as a very young boy (am now 48) and was very jealous of Craig Sterling and Richard Barrat :-). Keep up the great work you’re doing with the sanctuary. The site is great by the way. Take care. Kind regards, Barrie x

Just saw one of the episodes of, 'The Champions,' on Sky this morning. Wow it takes me back.

This line is just to say, Jesus loves you. He's there in your joy and pain.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him." [Jn 3:16-17]

My Mum was telling me she saw you on one of the Sky channel programmes - she thinks - a few months ago talking about your animal sanctuary and how you often raise your own capital to help animals in distress. She was very impressed with your work as indeed I am. You do marvellous work with your sanctuary.
I am also a lifelong fan of The Champions and other series you have guest starred in such as Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) and The Saint.

Cheers.

Iwatched Champions as a little girl and would nag my mum to do my hair like yours and one day she came home from the hairdressers with your hair! I was so impressed as she was then what we now call a yummy mummy! and i loved it when she took me to school dressed and coiffed like you so trendy. My son is now watching the reruns on ITV 4, at last watching quality, that and The Saint. he thinks you are well fit and look well fit now after showing me your website...he is 16 so hot is really cool lol. I\'ve just been watching an episode of The Champions. I recently re-discovered the series on sky after watching it every week as a youngster. I had a crush on you then, but I didn\'t realise how good the three of you were, and my crush has been rekindled! You were fantastic then and now I\'ve discovered what a caring person you are it\'s even better. Well done for your work with animals (I have a cat called Gizmo). Dear Alexandra,

I have recently been watching re-runs of The Champions on T.V. because, as an eight year old boy (1968) I fell in love with a woman who wasn't my mum!
Then, this week whilst flicking through the Daily Mail I couldn't believe my eyes! There was your story! I am really sorry to hear about your health problems in the past and I am relieved to hear that it IS in the past. Just wish I'd known about you auctioning the old Pirelli calender which featured you.
Just wanted to say that you are one of the most beautiful women to walk the earth and looking at you now still gives me goose bumps. There aren't many women that can do that to me!
All the best with your animal charity and good luck for your future happiness.
With love from Clive. XXX

I just wanted to say I have been a Alexandra Bastedo fan since 1968. At the age of seven years old, I think the benchmark had been set of what I thought a beautiful women should be like. In some ways we have had one thing in common, for the past 27 years I have worked as a Medical Professional rescuing people and you rescuing animals.I'm sure the animals are far more appreciative.Any way if you wondered who the guy was with the Nikon camera and the telephoto lens at West Chiltington fete last Saturday. It was not the paparazzi it was me, just wished I had plucked up the courage to say hello!!! however did donate to your charity.
God bless and keep up the good work.
Best wishes,

I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to your ABC sanctuary open day on Saturday.

West Chiltington is a beautiful setting.

During 30 years you must have cared for hundreds of animals and I hope you can continue for many more years (even if it is not another 30!).

My wife and I have cared for several rescued cats and greyhounds over the years and it always gladdens the heart to see animals being cared for.

I look forward to bringing friends to further open-days if you can arrange them.

I have become an 'ABC Friend' and will follow the reports on the animals with interest.

Hi Alexandra, I 2 was a fan of the champions, & I was struck on how beautiful you are. I am also a fan of your friend Mike Tomkie & that was how I found out about your sanctuary. Although i had read your book a few years ago I'd forgotten about it. So I looked you up on the net & found this site. Anyway, I'm now a friend of ABC& wish you all the best, especially now, as I know things have been difficult. Carry on with the good work as Its a special gift to have an affinity with animals!

Hi Alexandra
Great to see you still looking good after all these years.I was only 7 and 8 years old when The Champions was first shown on tv and I saw every episode and bought the Annual.
It was good to see you a year later in an episode of Randall and Hopkirk.

Hi Alexandra,
I'm another of the overly mature 10 year olds who fell in love with you in the Champions! You're still looking fabulous. What a wonderful, unique quality you brought to the screen. My wife was a great fan too- she wanted to be you, of course!
Best wishes for your charitable work,
Garry

You have an excellent website.

I am huge fan of The Champions, and have been watching the repats on itv4.

I recently acquired the Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) DVD boxset and was delighted to see you in an episode I watched this afternoon!

By the way, I run an unofficial website which is dedicated to Elstree Studios (entitled Elstree Calling), where you made The Champions.

It has been great to read all about your life and work on here. I will add your link to my website!

Wow. I remember The Champions as my fave programme as a child growing up, & you in particular for some reason. Lovely to hear that you're alive and well, active (missed you in Eastenders) and as stunning as ever: the pedestal I put you on as a young boy still fits! You prove what exquisite taste I had even back then...

From: David Reynolds (Fri 23rd Jan 2009 at 20:45)
Dear Alexandra,
Your natural beauty captivated me when I was younger, as it still does now, you are, I think, the most beautiful woman Ever to grace our screen.

Just found this site after watching \\\\\\\"The Champions\\\\\\\" on TV again recently, and I always though you were gorgeous, and still are!

Those old TV shows show there age a bit now but they are still entertaining compared with the new stuff on the box, sooner watch them than big brother and other dummed down reality shows.

Hmm maybe I might get myself a calendar one day...not for the dates for the photos!

Hi Alexandra! I have to admit I was quite ignorant before today about who you actually were, until my Dad finally admitted that I was named after an actress from the TV series The Champions! He said that him and his friend had a deal that whoever had a daughter first they could name her after you.. and from what I’ve seen I’m highly honoured! and I'm also quite fond of the name so thanks! Yours faithfully, Alexandra II! :)

Hi alexandra, I am currently watching the series of the champions on sky television.I can say that I am enjoying it as much as the first time I viewed it as a younger person. You were a role model for myself regarding women being in control of their own lives and being in a mostly masculine world,at the time. I feel the program was ahead of its time, in its subject content and the role of women

Hello Sharon Mcrady
I was born in 1966 in BANGKOK,THAILAND,about 2 years after your series\'s first launch in U.S.A. ,but lucky enough to had a chance to watched \"The Champion\"on black and white television with my family(our favorite program),at that time,I did not understand much about the story. One thing I can remember is \"Sharon\" is very pretty!and want to have girl friend look like this when i grow up(I was 5 or 6 years old back then)The way you posted in beginning title is pretty cool.
Recently,I happened to see your reunion with Craig and Richard (Name in the series)You still look great even this age.
Wish you stay beauty, healthy and live long.
Hope you have a chance to read this message by yourselve.

Hello Alexandra
Have a lot of time and respect for you, as an actress, person and your work with the animal sanctuary.
It's a great pity more people are'nt as caring about our animal friends as you are. I abhor cruelty to animals and get very upset and angry when I read about it.
I would like to offer you my full support in your work and will be purchasing from your website in the very near future!

I was 10 years old when the Champions was first aired and have downloaded the first 8 episodes from the Apple Store...what a delight. At 10 you were my dream girl in fact I have an aunt who until recently stayed outside Geneva and my first trip to Switzerland was 1972. Just out of interest was Nemesis filmed in an office in Geneva or was the Geneva background a photograph. I was so pleased to see what you are doing now... rescuing animals. As part of my sideline I photograph dogs and have 2 dogs, one rescue dog called Tiger (12) and one 3 year old farm collie called Flori. All the dog owners in my local park have asked me to make a 2009 calendar and it\'s mainly full of rescue dogs, we hope to sell them to give money to the SSPCA but I will also tell them about your sanctuary and hopefully send you a donation as well. Keep up the good work lots of love and kisses...Philip

I am very impressed with your commitment to animals, best wishes for your animal project and your continuing career. Dale.

It sounds like a spanish person swearing in english..Bastedo. But oh Alexandra, what beauty and elegance you brought to our screens 40 years ago when "The Champions" first began. Now in 2008 you are doing it again in "Eastenders". Patrick Garland was a lucky man to have you marry him. Some guys have all the luck, as the song goes. (Robert Palmer in case you were wondering who sang it.) Mostly now it is the turn of the animals to benefit from your kindness. The overrding inpression I get from your website is one of a woman who is very grounded and has never taken her celebrity too seriously. Unlike many other famos people. So keep up the good work at the sanctuary and never turn down any v roles as I personally cant see enough of you on the small screen.

From: Matthew J. Adams (Fri 12th Sep 2008 at 01:16)
I never tire of watching the champions repeats. The opening scenes and soundtrack always take me back to when I first saw it as a five/six year old in my pyjamas and dressing gown ready for bed and begging my late Mum to let me stop up and watch it. Needless to say, you were always my favourite; I may have been only five years old but I was as captivated by your beauty then as I am now although my little sister always prefered Stuart Damon - for similar reasons no doubt.
Best wishes to you and all your animals and keep up the good work, Matt.

Good day Alexandra

I had the pleasure of meeting you in 1983 in Drumheller, Alberta where you were filming the Movie " Draw " with Kirk Douglas and James Coburn.

We have several wonderful photographs taken with my son Scott-now 30 years old.

This tour down memory lane and seeing all of your work related projects and photographs, current and up do date were very special.

We look forward to seeing more of your work. Any chance you again film in western Canada?

We still have the scrapbook of your press clippings and letters.
